Zoe
Zoe Washburne is Mal's first mate, and one of the few other browncoat survivors of the battle of Serenity Valley. she is intensely loyal to her Captain, although she is not above pointing out whenever he gets things wrong. Which she has to do with alarming regularity.
Despite Zoe's initial misgivings about Wash, she fell in love with the pilot and married him against Mal's wishes. Wash and Zoe seem to be polar opposites, but in truth they complement each other well. Wash can even make her smile.
Zoe was career military and tends to take it very seriously, as opposed to Mal's more casual approach. Of all the crew, she is the one who shows Mal the most respect and reacts as if they are still a part of the military chain of command even now. She is incredibly loyal and will follow through with any of his plans although she is free in voicing her concerns.
Unsurprisingly Zoe's key relationships on the ship revolve around the two men in her life. Her Captain who she forged a bond with during their time at war, and her husband who she loves without question. Still, she tends to keep herself to herself, but can always be relied upon to look after everyone's best interests.
