Mal
Malcolm Reynolds is the captain of Serenity. It's his vision, limited though it is, that has brought everyone together. All he needs is his boat, his family and some sky to fly in. Although some money might come in useful.
Mal was a Sergeant for the Browncoats in the Unification War against the Alliance. He participated in the bloodiest battle of the war in Serenity Valley which is what he named his ship after. After the war Mal headed out into the outer reaches in order to escape from Alliance influence and eke out a living.
Joining Mal in his exploits are his first officer Zoe, his pilot Wash, Kaylee his engineer, his public relations officer Jayne and Inara, a bonafide Companion. Along the way he has also picked up countless passengers, a few of which now appear to be along for the ride.
Mal may be the Captain of Serenity but he can also be mighty ornery which leads him to getting on the bad side of just about every one of his crew at some point or other. Despite this he displays a fierce protectiveness for all those he considers a part of his family and will defend to the death their honour. Unless it's him throwing about the insults. Or it becomes more prudent to run away. He's a complex individual is our captain.
