Inara
Much like the rest of the crew, Inara Serra appears to be running from her past to which end she rents one of the shuttles on Serenity. She is a registered Companion by craft, or whore as Mal delicately likes to tell it.
Companions are afforded a place of influence and are considered to be of the highest social standing in the Alliance and it is curious as to why Inara maintains her place onboard such a rundown ship. That she had problems at The Guild on her home planet of Sihnon is obvious, but what exactly drove her away is unknown especially as she was destined for the role of High Priestess.
As well as her beauty, Inara is well educated and can count among her many skills calligraphy, dancing, massages, swordplay and archery. Apart from a fondness for incense and lush interior design, her most precious possession seems to be a mysterious wooden box.
She maintains a respectful distance from the rest of the crew, but can be found in the company of either River or Kaylee. She has also acted as Book's confessor, but her main connection is through Mal and their fiery love/hate confrontations which typically ends in them trading insults. True love never did run smooth.
