The Big Red Fez

If you are looking for a quick guide in how to make your web site better, then The Big Red Fez could well be the book for you. To begin with, Seth Godin appears to be the master of stating the obvious. However, as you read on you begin to realise that although much of what is discussed may be obvious, when it is put into practice on the web it is often forgotten or worse, ignored.

Hardly a weighty volume at around a 100 pages, with half of these being used for the various websites under discussion, this is the perfect book for dipping into when weightier tomes are getting you down.

TOne of the beauties of this book is that not only does the author give you clear tips for your website, but he demonstrates each one with an example taken from the Internet. Seth also uses simple analogies in order to focus your attention on what is important, like describing web site visitors as monkey who are looking for one thing: a banana (no offense to those of you still reading this!).

With page titles such as “Don’t ask twice”, “Digital metaphor is the enemy of progress” or “Hey, it really isn’t tv! Really. It’s not. Stop it already.” Seth manages to make many negative pieces of advice more palatable due to the conversational tone of his writing.

Easy to read, informational and practical, this book is brilliant at getting your website to focus on what is important - the banana.
